Employee Termination

Today I pushed out some new code to Work Tyme to add in something I am kicking myself for not thinking of sooner, how to deal with employee terminations. One of my clients recently asked how they can mark an employee as a former employee but still maintain their information in Work Tyme. I had just assumed an account admin would simply change the employee’s password so they could no longer log in.

Patient Zero

Right before I sat down to write this post I had to clean chocolate Boost out of a brown shag carpet. Oh, and before the Boost ended up on the carpet it had been inside the stomach of a very sick four year old. Everyone in my house currently has the flu but me. Which likely means I am just tempting fate at this point. But as long as my body holds out until Erin and the boys are better, that is all I can ask.

Vtigermods

In an effort to clean up my registrar account today I set https://vtigermods.com to not renew. I have had this domain for some time and I really could have pulled the plug on it sooner but I was one of my first websites so I always just kept it online. Way back in 2010 my workplace was about to make the move to a new CRM/Shipping software. They had previously used two separate services and were wanting to switch to a single piece of software.

Alkaline Trio

Today I decided to listen to some of my albums from my youth and I had forgotten how great Alkaline Trio’s “From here to infirmary” was. Cover to cover that is just a fantastic listen. I may be biased as this was the first Trio album I ever listened to back in 2003. I still remember the first time I heard Alkaline Trio. It was in my brother and I’s apartment located above Edo Japan in Hub Mall.

Back at It

It has been an insanely busy summer and fall here in the Umrysh household. But good busy, if that is a thing. I hear people say it, so I am assuming it is a thing. I’ve been very fortunate to have more projects to work on than time to work on them. As I approach my first year anniversary of starting my own software development and IT support company I am very excited for what the future will bring.

Leonardo's Brain

I finished reading a book that had been on my to-read list for quite some time. Leonardo’s Brain: Understanding da Vinci’s Creative Genius by Leonard Shlain wasn’t the greatest book I have ever read but it did pose some interesting points that had me contemplating society and life. This was the first book on Leonardo I have read so a lot of what the author had implied was common knowledge was instead fresh and new for me.

Stargate Origins

I found out earlier this week that there had been released a web series set in the Stargate universe. Being a huge Stargate fanboy I had to give it a watch. After having finished it, all I can say is that if I wasn’t so vested in Stargate lore I would not have finished this. It was brutally terrible. The writing and the story itself was so bad. FYI I am going to spoil the story in the following paragraphs.

Tucker and Dale

I decided to take the evening off yesterday and went looking for something to watch on Netflix. After not finding anything new worth watching I decided to re-watch Tucker and Dale vs Evil. What a great movie! It is still one of my favorites for the simple fact it is so unique. A hillbilly slasher flick told from the perspective of the hillbillies. Where the teenagers are the crazy ones terrorizing them.

Mipso

Today the latest album from Mipso was released. I have been listening to them on and off since the summer and was very much looking forward to some new songs to add to the playlist. The album as a whole is very much more of the same, but that is not a bad thing when you enjoy the previous albums. So far my favorite lyrics are from “Didn’t Know Love”:

The big 50

Last month one of my close friends turned 50. I didn’t even realize he was turning 50. I knew it was his birthday but it was like my brain chose to forget that little detail. I must admit, it kind of set me back a bit when I realized it. We have known each other for a very long time but our friendship really started to form around the year 2005 when we had begun working together.
